![]() If you attempt to purchase 11 of them, this graphic leftover from the Dreamcast version will load. By using cheats for infinite money in Power Stone 2, you'll bypass the 99,999,999G amount and it'll actually be at 999,999,999G which lets one purchase multiple Emperor's Crowns. I still like Melee better, but PS2 back when I had a Dreamcast was a great way to get my multiplayer fighting fix.The game contains some leftovers from the original games, like VMU related content not used in the collection. At least in SB you can control the randomness by selecting "normal" stages or switching off the items. For a casual lighthearted game session it's okay, but when you want to get serious in a match, it can be troubling. The stages: While the nonstop action in the stages makes the power stone games fun, it also makes things more subject to win/losing for luck rather than skill, and for competitive games lige a fighting game, that can be a problem. Regarding the characters: The roster is smaller than the one in SSB franchise and less relatable, the characters while creative and whimsical, are not as famous as the nintendo characters, so usually you find more appealing having Link fighting DK, rather than Ayame fighting Ryoma. The main reason it's below SSB Melee is because of character and some elements of the gameplay: However: Power Stone 2 it's a really fun game, One of the best of the Dreamcast that's for sure. Played all of these games in their own time and I still belive Melee is the best of the bunch. And I think its a bit easier to "cheese" an opponent into a "cheap" combo of attacks in PS2. Maybe because the changing stages is less new and exciting to me, and I prefer neutral esque stages like FD, Battlefield, Corneria, PS2's Desert for less luck. What are other fans' thoughts of these two/three in comparison?ĮDIT: Just replayed a bit of PS2 last night, and yeah, I think I definitely like Melee a bit more now. Its single player, more unlockable characters, more neutral stages, and slightly cleaner battles win out a bit more than PS2's specials/transformations, item synthesis, and 3d freeroaming blocking gameplay. Overall, I guess Id lean to Melee a smidge more. I think the Power Stone transofrmations and specials are actually more fun and satisfying than even Brawl's later smash balls, but Melee has no such thing and Brawl imo isnt a good cmparison givne it came so much later. But Melee has really good 2D battles and much, much, much more quality in its solo modes with Adventure, EvEnt Matches, more unlockable characters that feel more rewarding (perhaps the PS Collection on PSP would feel more rewarding since Kraken and Valgas are more characters beside just Pride and Mel though), and I think that even though Melee has more annoying stages, it has about as many equally good, fun ones.īoth are obviously good for 4p multiplayer. I think PS2's item synthesis is awesome and prefer its items and really like the free roam design and fun thematic things like guns and cakes. I think the dynamicness of PS2 stages is probably better? But aside from desert, theres no flat neutral stages, which I think is a nice thing about Battlefield, FD, Corneria, Dreamland, etc. Im ambivalent between 2d and 3d and block/no block. I think I like the melting pot cast of PS2 characters from across time and space more than Nintendo All Stars personally- it feels a lot more widespread and global, as across time and space. Now for Melee VS PS2, thats the harder comparison. Riding in vehicles and moving stages make it a lot more zany fun. It has a lot more diversity of character backgrounds from western, to samurai, to chef, to futuristic robot, etc and really fun items and item combinations. It has all the same characters and more, almost all the stages, and more modes and things like event and adventure and all star (I do miss Board the Platform but thats the only thing I mainly miss) I definitely think Melee is better than SSB. I flip back and forth between Melee and PS2.
